(1) 1985 KC Royals vs. (9) 2003 KC Chiefs
While the results of this one should likely favor the number one seeded KC Royals, the 2003 KC Chiefs team upset their opponent in the first round.
The 1985 Royals, who won the World Series that year, blew out their 16-seeded opponent in the first round. It was the only World Series the Kansas City Royals have won and it will be difficult for the 2003 KC Chiefs to knock them off.
Who were the 2003 Chiefs, you ask?
With Trent Green under center, the KC Chiefs started the season with a 9-0 record and ended the season going 13-3. With a first-round bye in the playoffs, the Chiefs still couldn’t bring home a playoff victory and lost to the Indianapolis Colts in the famous “no-punt game”.
The 2003 Chiefs were able to knock off the nine-seeded 2011-2012 Kansas Jayhawks basketball team in the first round, but it’ll take a lot for them to dethrone the one-seeded Royals in round two.
