This is an interesting match-up because on paper it looks like despite the close seeds, the Kansas basketball team should be the heavy favorite after finishing second in the final polls, but digging deeper in to the seasons may prove different.
The Jayhawks finished the season 32-7 after falling to Kentucky 67-59 in the National Championship game. Junior Thomas Robinson had 18 points and 17 rebounds in his final collegiate game.
The Chiefs underachieved, but only after overachieving during the regular season. Kansas City had not made the playoffs for five straight years and was coming off an average 8-8 season.
In 2003, the KC Chiefs reeled off nine straight wins to start the season, and claimed the AFC West with 13 victories.
Priest Holmes rushed for 1,420 yards and an NFL-best 27 touchdowns. The season ended in a home Divisional Playoff loss to Indianapolis, 38-31, and became the first postseason game to feature zero punts.
