Kendrys Morales was a very risky signing for the Kansas City Royals. The thing that Morales is most known for around the MLB is an unfortunate one. In 2010 while a member of the Angels, Morales hit a walk-off grand slam and while running to home plate, jumped up in the air to celebrate and shattered his ankle when landing.

I liked Billy just as much as the next Royals fan, but there’s no question who the better designated hitter is in Kansas City.

That unfortunate injury kept Morales out of the big leagues for almost two years. He tried to mount a comeback as a member of the Minnesota Twins and Seattle Mariners in 2014, but failed to live up to his pre-ankle injury days.

Signing Morales was a huge risk for Dayton Moore. Fans were already weeping at the departure of long-time Royal and fan favorite Billy Butler and now to bring in a guy who had been working off an injury for five years wasn’t ideal.

Things have worked out so far though, as Kendrys Moales has made people forget about Billy Butler in Kansas City. His 2015 season (as of June 21st) has seen him crushing 45 RBIs, 18 doubles, and eight home runs in 65 games with a batting average of .286. In less than half a season, Morales has hit one less home run than Butler did all last year.

I liked Billy just as much as the next Royals fan, but there’s no question who the better designated hitter is in Kansas City. This city agrees, as they’ve voted Morales as one of the eight Royals starting in the 2015 All-Star Game.

You go Kendrys!
