Is Alex Smith arguably the best quarterback the Kansas City Chiefs have had for quite some time? Yeah, probably. Is he an elite quarterback? Nope.

While there are certainly things that are looking in Smith’s favor, there is no doubt that Alex Smith is an overrated quarterback on the Chiefs roster.

How many times have we all watched Smith act like he wanted to throw the deep ball, but just didn’t? I did way too many times, and to the point where I would get incredibly frustrated with him.

There are many pros and cons to Alex Smith. I just don’t feel that he’s really an elite quarterback. He’s certainly good, just not great.

There are times that he can remind me of ol’ Matt Leinart and throw it to the checkdown route every single play. Then, right when you think that he’s incapable of completing a pass of over 20 yards he’ll surprise you and throw a 50 yard bomb.

Just to not seem like I’m completely bashing Alex Smith, I do have to point out that in his two seasons with Kansas City the team has won 20 games (11 in 2013 and nine in 2014).

There are many pros and cons to Alex Smith. I just don’t feel that he’s really an elite quarterback. He’s certainly good, just not great.

With all of that being said, I know that the Chiefs have made substantial improvements to the team. The new linemen and receivers should set him up nicely for success next season.
