KC Chiefs: Five Most Overrated Chiefs For 2015

Before you guys tear my head off about Mike DeVito, I only put him on this list due to his performance as a Chief.
When he was with the Jets, we was certainly not an overrated player. Also, I am aware he’s only played one season with the Chiefs before rupturing his Achilles’ tendon last season, but I just haven’t been as impressed as I maybe should be.
In 2012, DeVito put up very solid numbers as a defensive end for the New York Jets. He finished the season with 52 total tackles and a sack, per his NFL profile. For a guy who isn’t known for a speedy defensive end, those were really solid numbers.
I understand he’s a defensive end and that position isn’t widely known for having big tackle numbers, but going from the previous season it’s a little disappointing to see such a dip in production.
Fast forward to the 2013 season on the Kansas City Chiefs and you’ll see a huge drop-off in his tackle totals. In 2013, DeVito finished with only a combined 28 tackles.
Ten of those aforementioned total tackles were assists. This means he averaged barely over one solo tackle per game.

I’m not saying he isn’t a good player. He was sorely missed last season as the Chiefs became the laughing stock of the league in run defense (losing Derrick Johnson helped with that too).

Having a healthy Mike DeVito back into the defensive line will obviously help the Chiefs’ defense.
On the flip side of that, don’t expect the Chiefs to be signing him to a three or four year contract any time soon. There’s a good chance one of these next couple of draft classes could have his replacement.
While DeVito is a good player on the Chiefs’ defensive line, I feel that he’s a little more hyped up than he should be.
