KC Chiefs: Five Best Special Teams Players In Chiefs History
Nick Lowery is one of those kickers that teams dream of having. In his 14 years with the Kansas City Chiefs, Lowery went 329 for 410 on field goal attempts, which is 80.2% percentage of field goals made. Holy schnikes that’s good!
Lowery attended Dartmouth and went undrafted in 1978. He spent one season with the New England Patriots and then two years later joined the Chiefs. From 1980 until 1994, Nick Lowery was the Chiefs’ kicker and boy was it great to have complete confidence every time your team attempted a field goal.
I remember when the Chiefs were going through their crazy kicker carousel a few years ago, my mom said, “I miss Nick Lowery. Any time he went up to kick, you knew you were going to come away with three points.”
Now I’m not trying to knock on Cairo Santos, but I think we can all agree that we were afraid to look any time he attempted a field goal. That confidence wasn’t there for him like it was for Lowery because Lowery proved he was one of the best kickers of all time.
In fact, Lowery is 12th on NFL Career Points with 1,711.
The Kansas City Chiefs have been very fortunate to have two of the best kickers of all time on their team. It should come as no surprise that the other kicker is next on this list. So who is it?
