Trust me, I understand that quarterbacks are pretty much the top dudes when it comes to fantasy football. The reason I have Alex Smith down here at number four is because if you’re looking to draft a quarterback, chances are your first pick isn’t Alex Smith.

In no way am I saying that Smith is a bad quarterback. He’s just not a flashy throw-it-like-his-life-depends-on-it player. From a fantasy standpoint, that’s unattractive.

In 2014, Smith totaled 3,265 yards and 18 touchdowns to six interceptions, per pro-football-reference. While those are good numbers in the real world, those aren’t so good in the fantasy football world.

This improved line means more pocket time for Smith, which means more chances to throw touchdowns. This is even more valid now with the acquisition of Jeremy Maclin.

Smith was probably one of the most frustrating quarterbacks to watch last season. It just seemed like he absolutely refused to throw the ball deep. If a guy wasn’t open in a check-down route, he usually would throw it away.

Another negative thing pointing his way was that he was behind a swiss-cheese like offensive line.

Coming into this season, the Chiefs’ offensive line is looking much better. Key free agency acquisitions like Ben Grubbs and Paul Fanaika have given the Chiefs a solid looking line.

Smith has the tools around him to have a solid 2015 season. In fact, he has more than enough weapons to help him boost his numbers.

He’s a really good-looking option for your bench this upcoming fantasy football season. If things go in the right way he may even graduate to a starting quarterback in some leagues.
