The KC Royals sit atop the American League Central (and are second in Major League Baseball) with a 28-16 record, but wins and losses do not always tell the story.

Especially in a baseball season, pre-June records can be very deceiving. In fact, the Minnesota Twins sit in second place, one game ahead of the Detroit Tigers and two behind Kansas City, but there aren’t too many experts picking them to make the playoffs just yet.
The Tigers on the other hand have won the past four division crowns, and advanced to the World Series twice in the past nine seasons. The first eight of those, the Royals were under .500. Now, after their own trip to the Fall Classic and a hot start this season, it’s time to start talking about them as the best team in the AL Central (even with the Memorial Day debacle).
Despite the Twins’ recent resurgence, the Tigers are the cream of the crop in the division. If you are better than them, you’ve got a great shot to win the division.
