Alex Gordon’s dedication to keeping himself in shape is well-documented. I just don’t have many concerns about his production dropping all that much in the later years of a contract like the one I proposed, and could even picture one or two career-best type of seasons in terms of power.

Look, like many other current Kansas City Royals fans, Gordon is my favorite player. I’d be heartbroken to see him go elsewhere.
We’ve seen the Royals sever ties with Billy Butler, who expressed a similar level of desire to remain with the Royals, and was a homegrown kid. Comparing those two, however, is apples to oranges.
If I sensed a more rigid tone from Gordon, maybe I’d be more concerned. I see all of this as a very smart business decision on the part of Gordon, in an attempt to secure long-term security from the Royals.
Even with this new-found ambiguity on his contract situation, I’d say there’s a less than 20% chance Gordon wears another team’s uniform in 2016.
