In the inevitable tribute videos of the Royals postseason run, I’m sure every other highlight is going to be Lorenzo Cain leaping to make a catch or diving at a ball to steal an extra base hit.
But it wasn’t just the center fielder making plays. Perez, Hosmer, Escobar, and Gordon are all up for Gold Glove awards, while Cain should be but will lose the opportunity because he split time at centerfield and right field.
Counting Cain, the Royals have five Gold Glove caliber players on their defense. That’s stellar.
And players outside of those five still make big plays. The most memorable play of the postseason might have been Moustakas’ diving catch into the dugout in the ALCS that helped us clinch the pennant. And we’ve all seen Infante grab a ground ball barehanded and chuck it to first in one motion.
