For a guy like me, having grown up a Kansas City Royals fan my whole life, I’ve never had the pleasure of experiencing October baseball. As Taylor Swift once brilliantly said, “Like ever..”
I’ll be 26 this December and I cannot tell you how many pointless Royals games I’ve been to in my life. Days spent at Kauffman Stadium just to be there to enjoy professional baseball and see some of the best in the game.
Oh and of course, the Krispy Kreme donuts. Remember when the they used to giveaway a free dozen original glazed donuts if the Royals got 12 hits? That’s what we used to hope for most back then. Donuts.
Now-a-days, it’s a lot different.

The seasons are changing. Leaves are turning colors, the temperatures are starting to drop, and the Kansas City Royals are still playing baseball—and championship baseball at that! Royals fans have been promised that this team would be good and that patience was the key from GM, Dayton Moore.
He drafted guys like Alex Gordon, Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas and Greg Holland foreseeing that they could be the key to a deep playoff run. He also had the guts to trade the best hitting prospect since Albert Pujols for James Shields, whose solidified the front end of their rotation.
Now, this isn’t an article to praise Dayton Moore. We already know that he’s done a good job of assembling this scrappy team. Rather this is an article saying that no matter what happens moving forward in the rest of this ALCS, the wait and patience has been well worth it.

The Royals have been down right magical. I was always told about how amazing October baseball is and am now finally getting to experience it for the first time in my life. Literally. These late game home runs from Moustakas, Hosmer, and now Alex Gordon have been some of the most exciting moments in my sports life.
Each one of those home runs has sent me jumping out of my seat, running down my living room hallway and screaming a few things that I cannot mention in this article. October baseball is fun, magical, and down right addictive.
I mean, I just can’t get enough of it. Experiencing it for the first time in my life has been like watching the first episode of “Breaking Bad.” I’ve been captivated from the very beginning and I need to binge watch in order to get my fix!
But I can’t, and that’s the beauty of it.It makes it’s own drama each night. It leaves you on the edge of your seat, heart thudding at each pitch, each at bat, inning after inning. It’s the most addicting thing I’ve ever experienced!
I love this team. I love this moment. And, there is nothing that I want more than for the Royals to get to the World Series and keep feeding my October baseball addiction.
