The Kansas City Royals continue to roll along, notching their 7th consecutive win, and their second series sweep in a row, with their 7-4 win over Giants starter Tim Lincecum on Sunday afternoon. Alex Gordon and Salvador Perez supported winning pitcher Danny Duffy with home runs, while the Royals ran wild on the bases by piling up 7 steals.

Right now, the team is hitting on all cylinders.
The Royals are now 10 games above .500 at 63-53. Kansas City pulled within 1/2 game of the Detroit Tigers, who lost a 19-innnig marathon to the Blue Jays after jumping out to a 5-0 lead. The Royals hold a 1.5 game advantage over the Blue Jays and Mariners for the 2nd A.L. wild card.
On the Mound
Danny Duffy dominated the Giants for 6 innings before running into trouble in the 7th when he gave up 3 runs. Duffy pitched 6.2 innings, allowing only 3 hits, 3 walks, and 4 earned runs with 4 strikeouts. Duffy earned his 7th win of the season against 10 losses.
Jason Frasor relieved Duffy in the 7th with 2 men on base and 1 run in. Frasor allowed 2 hits, which scored both inherited baserunners, before he recorded the 3rd out.
Wade Davis pitched a scoreless inning in which he allowed 1 hit and struck out 1.
Greg Holland nailed down his A.L. leading 34th save despite allowing 2 hits , 1 walk, but no earned runs. Holland also struck out 2.
At the Plate
The Royals opened the game with 4 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, capped by Alex Gordon’s 2-run home run (12). Gordon went 2-3 on the day, with the home run, single, 1 walk, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI’s.
Kansas City knocked out Giants’ starter Tim Lincecum with 3 runs in the 4th, capped by Salvador Perez’s 2-run shot (14). Perez went 1-3 with the home run, 1 walk, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBI’s.
Both Jarrod Dyson and Nori Aoki had perfect days at the plate. Dyson went 3 for 3 with 3 singles. Aoki went 2-2 with 2 singles, 2 walks, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBi’s. Both Dyson and Aoki piled up 3 stolen bases.
This and That
Sung Woo Lee’s good luck continues to hold. The team is now 6-0 since he arrived in Kansas City with series sweeps over both Arizona and San Francisco. Sung Woo waved a broom from his seat at Kauffman Stadium.
Sung Woo also got a glove from former Royal reliever (and Royals Hall-of-Famer) Jeff Montgomery before the game.
Sung Woo will also throw out the first pitch of today’s game against the A’s.
Billy Butler ran his hitting streak to 7 games with his RBI double in the 1st inning. Butler went 1-4 on the day. Butler has hit so much better after returning to the field with Eric Hosmer‘s injury that manager Ned Yost will have to consider getting him more playing time at 1st after Hosmer returns.
KC Kingdom Player of the Game
Our nod goes to Alex Gordon, who was a close choice over offensive heroes Salvador Perez, and Nori Aoki.
