facebooktwitterreddit

At long last, longtime Kansas City Royals fan Sung Woo Lee is coming to Kansas City. If you are at all active on the #Royals Twitter hashtag, then you have likely encountered one of the most rabid Kansas City Royals fans in any universe. On Twitter, Sung is known as @Koreanfan_KC.

More from Kansas City Royals

Sung Woo has been a KC fan since the 90’s, and religiously follows the team through his MLB.TV subscription, staying up all hours in Korea to watch games and interact with fellow Royals fans live during games. Sung started following the Royals on the Scout.com fan forum:

I, like many other Royals fans on Twitter, have had the joy of celebrating the ups and downs of our favorite team with a guy that has never had a chance to see a game in person because he was born half a world away.

Well, this week, Sung Woo Lee is coming to KC. His quest inspired his own Twitter hashtag #SungWootoKC.

Sung Woo has become something of a Twitter institution on the #Royals hashtag. Not only fans, but a number of Royals players have become aware of their rabid fan from South Korea. Danny Duffy, in fact, even talked of helping Sung Woo get to Kansas City last season, but nothing came of it.

Now, a whole bunch of Royals fans got together to help make it happen (including Danny Parkins from 610 who provided tickets for Royals games) and Sung Woo Lee managed to get time off from work for a long trip to KC.

Sung Woo watched with other Royals fans in Kansas City as the Royals defeated the Diamondbacks Tuesday night:

After Tuesday’s 12-run 3-homer outburst, some fans want Sung Woo to hang around for a more permanent arrangement:

While others credit Sung Woo Lee for being a bit more than a good luck charm:

Ebola and solving the Middle East seem well within Sung’s powers, but fixing Mike Moustakas? I’m not sure that’s within the abilities of Miracle Max, much less Sung.

Sung Woo Lee will be in Kansas City an entire week, with a whole series of events planned. You can see the full itinerary for Sung Woo Week at Pine Tar Press. Among the highlights are: 1) tour of the Negro Leagues Museum 2) lunch at Arthur Bryants, 3) a private tour of Kauffman Stadium 4) a Chiefs pre-season game at Arrowhead 5) Sung Woo attends his first Royals game 6) Sung Woo throws out the first pitch on August 11 vs. the A’s.

Welcome to Kansas City Sung Woo. It’s nice to see Sung’s dream of a pilgrimage to Kauffman Stadium come true. Heck, if Sung Woo Lee can make it to KC, maybe the Royals CAN make the playoffs.
