Training camp continues for the Chiefs at St. Joseph, Missouri. Jamaal Charles hit the Midwest regional cover of Sports Illustrated, highlighting a story about how running backs still rule the fantasy football world.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

The Royals pulled out a 3-2 victory today over the Twins on a 3-run rally in the 6th inning that feature 3 consecutive doubles. The win broke Kansas City’s two-game losing streak and kept the team 5 games behind Detroit in the A.L. Central race.

The Royals were involved in a number of trade rumors throughout the day. GM Dayton Moore has clearly been looking for help at RF, SP, RP and was even said to be considering bringing back Emilio Bonifacio as a utility player. However, the Royals seem to be balking at the asking prices on players like John Lackey and Marlon Byrd.

Reports indicate that the Royals are not willing to take on significant salary according to other clubs around the league, despite earlier indications to the press by Dayton Moore that owner David Glass had authorized him to take on payroll if the right deal presented itself.

Graham Zusi’s curling goal to tie Toronto in Sporting’s 2-1 win earlier this week was nominated for Goal of the Week for the MLS. Voting continues at MLSsoccer.com until noon PST on Thursday, July 31.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

"My role is to go out there and make plays and get better every day. Being a vet on this defense, I have a chance to coach up some young guys and make sure they know what they’re doing right now. Every day I take the same approach, try to get better every day and see if I can help someone else out."

KANSAS CITY ROYALS

  • Royals Reivew – Royals seem to be losing interest in trading for an outfielder
  • Kings of Kauffman – Brian Henry calls Kansas City the Crazy Streaky Royals:

"By my metric, they are the 3rd streakiest team in the majors this year.  Only Boston and Tampa Bay have been more volatile so far, but they have done it very differently.  Tampa started the year off with lots of little and big losing streaks before recently flipping a switch and running off some nice winning streaks.  Boston has had one long losing streak with a couple other shorter ones that are keeping them well out of the playoff chase.  The Royals on the other hand are maddeningly inconsistent throughout."

SPORTING KC

  • SportingKC.com – Graham Zusi’s goal vs. Toronto nominated for MLS Goal of the Week:

"Zusi’s goal was a strike from the edge of the 18-yard box that was curled just inside the far post to level the match at 1-1. Sporting KC would continue the momentum with a late game-winner from Jacob Peterson in the 80th minute to earn the club’s fifth consecutive road win — a new club record — and extend their lead atop the Eastern Conference standings. Sporting KC is 15-0-1 all-time when Zusi scores a goal."

"Sporting Kansas City is expected to visit the White House in October to celebrate its 2013 MLS Cup championship, according to a team spokesperson. The date for the trip hasn’t been finalized, but Sporting KC travels to play D.C. United on Oct. 3. A day at the White House would likely precede the match."
