Since the Royals decided to turn the vote into a college basketball, March Madness rip-off, I thought I’d play along.  I decided to come up with my own Final Four.

Here are four songs the Royals should consider naming as the new 6th inning song.

1)  Loser – Beck.  Considering we’ve had two seasons above .500 in the past 20 years, it would be hard to argue against this classic self-deprecating ditty.  And heck, it’s a nice little sing-a-long to boot.  Plus everyone gets to sing a little Spanish with the “Soy un perdedor.”  For a bunch of losers, that sure seems like it’s a win/win for everyone involved.

2)  Livin’ on a Prayer – Bon Jovi.  Let’s face it, this could be the Royals’ 2015 marketing slogan and not many people would blink an eye.  With the unusual drafting habits, player-development failures and public relations issues with the manager and GM, one starts thinking this really is the strategy that has been implemented out at One Royal Way.  Why not start laying the groundwork now and play this song during every home game?

3)  Money – Pink Floyd.  Mr. Glass sure loves his money.  In fact, he’d do just about anything to make more of it.  He has to love the sound of the cash register.  Well, Mr. Glass, you’re in luck.  This song has that magical sound built into it.

If we played this song during the 6th inning of every home game, could you imagine how many games he might actually attend in-person?

Those heavenly tones of the cash register would be beckoning him from his home in Arkansas.  No way he could resist.

4)  Tainted Love – Soft Cell.  This is almost too perfect.  There are so many bitter, hurt Royals fans that exist today.  This is their anthem.  This is their “love” song to the front office.  The first lines of the song are enough to know this is a real contender…  “Sometimes I feel I’ve got to run away.  I’ve got to get away from the pain that you drive into the heart of me.”  Then there’s also the very telling line… “Take my tears and that’s not nearly all.”

So there you have it.  The real Final Four.  I’ll let you decide.

Since I don’t have any pull out at The K, we’re all just going to have to settle for what “the fans” chose Saturday night.  In a completely unrelated matter, the front office would like to take this time to remind you that you should never stop believing in this team.
