Kansas Jayhawks: Ranking the Basketball Uniforms
By Joel Wagler
NUMBER ONE
I still don’t know what the color of this uniform is called (I’m kidding, it is a light shade of gray). It is perhaps one of the more startling alternative uniforms the Jayhawks have donned in quite some time.

The lettering on the jerseys were actually meant to pay homage to the 1988 National Championship team, as these uniforms featured what I believe was called circus lettering. It was the same font used by Kansas when Danny Manning led the team to the top that season.
I loathed these uniforms when they debuted early in the conference season. They were by far the biggest deviation from the more traditional road uniforms usually favored by Bill Self and the University of Kansas basketball team.
I have to admit though, that once I got used to the strange gray, these unis really grew on me. I ended up really liking them.
That being said, if there had been a better blue road uniform, this uni would have fallen to second.
This version also featured the very gimmicky pinstripes made of words that the cream-colored uniforms did.
The fans couldn’t read the tiny pinstripes anyway, so solid blue pinstripes would have been much nicer, and not near as gimmicky. It wouldn’t surprise me if a variation of this uniform appears again in the future. The gray is attractive, and if just plain pinstripes are used, I wouldn’t mind.
If a return to these grays does happen, I would rather see them as home uniforms, and not replace the road blues.
