6. Kareem Hunt - RB
The Chiefs reunited with Kareem Hunt after Isiah Pacheco sustained a broken Tibia/Fibula in Week 2. Hunt was drafted by the Chiefs in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft. However, after a breakout rookie season, Hunt was released midway through 2018 due to a domestic abuse incident.
Following his release, Hunt spent the next five seasons in Cleveland, running with Nick Chubb. Although Hunt had four good seasons with Cleveland, it seemed he took a step back in 2023. For this reason, Hunt remained a free agent until the Chiefs signed him.
Unfortunately, at 29, Hunt lacks the shiftiness he used to have but still runs with the same power. As a result, Hunt was less explosive this season, yet he was still effective. In 13 games (8 starts), Hunt recorded 200 carries for 728 yards and seven touchdowns.
While Hunt filled in decently for Pacheco, his 3.6 yards a carry shows that lack of explosion, which is bound to keep deteriorating. With Hunt turning 30 before the start of next season, the likelihood that he will return to Kansas City is slim to none.
7.Samaje Perine - RB
The Chiefs brought Samaje Perine in on a one-year, $1.5 million contract as their third-down back in 2024. Perine has been a solid blocker and has even produced a few exciting plays out of the backfield. One such play came on a 3rd and 22 lateral from Travis Kelce to Perine, who gained 21 yards.

In addition to that play, Perine has recorded 28 receptions on 35 targets for 322 yards and one touchdown. This season has been the second-best of Perine's career in terms of receiving yards. That just goes to show how quickly he and Mahomes created chemistry.
Despite this, many anticipate Perine's time with the Chiefs will be over after this season. If Perine decides to come back for another season, he will be entering his age 30 season with a replaceable skillset.
Although a Perine return to Kansas City is not completely off the table for 2025, the Chiefs won't be banging on his door for a return.
