Robert Griffin III looks to be headed to free agency and many teams are interested in giving him a shot. The KC Chiefs consider making a move for RG III.

Robert Griffin is a great fit for the Chiefs because Andy Reid has employed a system that benefits from having a mobile quarterback. Marc Sessler, a writer for Around The NFL thinks that the KC Chiefs could be a potential landing spot for the enigmatic quarterback.

Donovan McNabb‘s career with the Eagles was the best example of this and Reid was able to keep McNabb healthy while winning a lot of games.  The same formula could work for Griffin in Kansas City.

Reid has used Alex Smith‘s running ability to help make the Chiefs offense more explosive. If Reid can mentor Griffin into a better use of his running ability so he doesn’t take the big hits while also making better decisions under pressure. Griffin could fulfill the promise he showed in his first season in the NFL.

Griffin has all the tools you would want out of a quarterback. That is why he was taken second overall in his draft class only behind Andrew Luck. Griffin has gotten a bad reputation after a lot of strange things happened between him and the Redskins front office.

Hopefully his eventual benching and sitting out of the past season has humbled him. The Chiefs front office is much stronger than the Redskins was at the time of Griffin’s drafting. Not to mention are team is better and should provide a stable environment.

The Chiefs can afford to be patient with Griffin giving him time to mature and earn the job. Also giving the Chiefs a great back up situation if Alex Smith were to get hurt. There has been speculation that Chase Daniel will be following Doug Pederson to Philadelphia so the timing couldn’t be better.

More from Chiefs Free Agency

The Chiefs are contenders and need to continue to improve if they want to remain legitimate Super Bowl contenders. Robert Griffin represents an improvement at the back QB spot. As well as an upgrade over Smith in the future given the development of Griffin under Reid.

The Chiefs can’t afford not to sign Griffin. He has a higher upside than probably any quarterback that has been a part of the Chiefs since Trent Green. Its a low risk proposition with a high reward.
