The 2011 season was an odd one for the Kansas City Chiefs. They began the season getting blown out in two games, but turned things around somewhat as the season went on. They’d lose embarrassing games, but win ones they had no business winning, so it really balanced out the season.

One of the odd games the Chiefs were able to win in 2011 was against the Green Bay Packers in week 15. By that point of the season, the Packers were undefeated on the year at 13-0. The Chiefs had a losing record at 5-8 and had underperformed for most of the season after winning the AFC West the year prior.

Not many people predicted a good game from Kansas City in this game (myself included), but boy was it a memorable one!

The Chiefs led until the third quarter off two Ryan Succop field goals, but Aaron Rodgers finally put the Pack on the board with a two-yard touchdown pass to Donald Driver. That would be the only time Green Bay would lead.

Succop kicked another two field goals (he had four on the day) to make it a 12-7 game, and later Jackie Battle ran in for Kansas City’s only touchdown of the day to make it 19-7.

Green Bay made a late charge, getting another touchdown from Aaron Rodgers who ran it in himself, but ultimately the Chiefs defense held off the Pack, and completed the upset of the season.

This game was the Green Bay Packers’ one loss in 2011, and it’s safe to say the players who were on the team that season could still be upset about it. Maybe Monday night will be their revenge, who knows?

As for how that season shook out for both teams, the Chiefs went 7-9, placed last in the AFC West, but somehow were still only a field goal away from making the playoffs. That’s how bad the AFC West was that season.

The Packers won their division with a 15-1 record, but lost in the NFC Divisional Round against the New York Giants, who went on to win the Super Bowl that year.
