Looking Around the Kansas City Kingdom this week we see that former Pittsburgh Steelers WR Santonio Holmes worked out with the Chiefs on Monday.

More from Kansas City Chiefs

Holmes, who caught the game winning pass for Pittsburgh victory over Arizona in the 2009 Super Bowl, has since turned into a journeyman receiver that has disappointed in free agent stops with the New York Jets and Chicago Bears. Chicago recently cut him loose after he only produced 8 catches for 67 yards through 10 games this season.

The Royals continue to work on their 2015 roster after the General Manager’s meeting in Phoenix. Cuban emigre OF Yasmany Tomas is on the Royals wish list due to his youth (turning 24) and raw power.

Meahwhile, Kansas State sophomore guard Marcus Foster has been nominated for the Wooden Award and Missouri Tiger Russell Hansbrough earned SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

Arrowhead Addict – WR Santonio Holmes worked out with Kansas City:

"A report came out over the weekend former New York Jets, Chicago Bears, and Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Santonio Holmes visited Kansas City to workout with the team. This report came from Ian Rapoport."

Arrowhead Pride – The De’Anthony Thomas (DAT) Effect:

"Ben Fennell who runs the Twitter account of @TheXOsOfLife had several great examples of how DAT affected the game even when he didn’t touch the ball. This is one of the best breakdowns of the DAT effect that I’ve seen. Next time you watch the Chiefs game, check out how DAT is used when on the field, especially early on."

KANSAS CITY ROYALS

Royals Review – Scouting report on Yasmany Tomas:

"Yasmany offers classical Cuban power, but it’s lesser than Abreu and fellow cuban Alfredo Despaigne. Scouts label him with 65-70 raw power which translates to 25-30 home runs in any given season. What will downplay that power though is the hit tool."

Kings of Kauffman – Hunter Samuels thinks the Royals plan to rotate the DH spot a bad idea:

"Going back to 2010, the most productive teams at the designated hitter position are:Red Sox: 137 wRC+Tigers: 114 wRC+Royals: 111 wRC+Blue Jays: 111 wRC+Indians: 109 wRC+One trait each of those teams shared? They all had at least one player who accumulated at least 1000 plate appearances as a designated hitter"

KANSAS STATE WILDCATS

KStateSports.com – Marcus Foster named pre-season Wooden Award candidate:

"Sophomore guard Marcus Foster was named one of 50 preseason candidates for the prestigious John R. Wooden Award presented by Wendy’s by the Los Angeles Athletic Club on Monday. The Wooden list, which reflects the early frontrunners for one of college basketball’s Premier Player of the Year awards, is based on last year’s individual performance and team records. Transfers, freshmen and medical redshirts are not eligible for the preseason list. These players and others who excel during the season will be evaluated and considered for December’s Midseason list with the official voting ballot released in March."

MISSOURI TIGERS

MUTigers.com – Russell Hansbrough named SEC Offensive Player of the Week:

"Hansbrough, playing in his home state of Texas, led Mizzou to a huge 34-27 road win at #24 Texas A&M Saturday evening, thanks to his career-high 199 rushing yards. He averaged 9.9 yards per carry (20 attempts), which included touchdown runs of 49 and 45 yards on consecutive 3rd-quarter possessions as the Tigers rallied from a 13-6 halftime deficit"
