Kansas City Chiefs: Beating The Bills Is A Must

facebooktwitterreddit

The Kansas City Chiefs travel to Buffalo this Sunday to take on the Bills in a game that both teams would consider a must win situation. This marks the third straight season that the Chiefs have to travel there and the sixth straight that these two teams will meet in the regular season.

My fellow editor, Leigh Oleszczak put together an awesome article that recapped the rivalry over the last couple of years. You can check that out with this link.

Heading into this contest, both teams are 5-3, second in their divisions, and likely fighting for one of the wildcard spots as we get closer to the playoffs. The Bills, on the back of quarterback Kyle Orton, are feeling really good about themselves, having collected five wins including a comeback against the Vikings in week seven.

They also put the beat down on the New York Jets, 43-23 before heading into their bye week and getting the extra time to prepare for Kansas City.

The reason this game is a must win for both teams is because of what I explained earlier in this post, the wildcard and playoff positioning. Both teams have the head to head over Miami, as the Chiefs took them down in week three and the Bills did so in week two. Of course, the Bills will have to face them again later this season as they’re division foes but if the season ended today, KC would be in as the top wildcard team.

As it looks now, neither the Chiefs or the Bills will win their division, as both teams have all world quarterbacks to deal with at the top. Of course, the Chiefs still have a shot if they can continue winning all the way up to week 13 when they take on the Broncos in Arrowhead. That game would easily be game of the week if first place is on the line, much like it was last season,

So, getting back to this game, both teams must win to keep the advantage in the AFC.

Kansas City waltz’s into Buffalo with the third rated defense in the NFL, only surrendering an average of 17.2 points per game while also leading the NFL in pass defense. A lot of that is credited to the Chiefs pass rush which we all know goes through Tamba Hali and the NFL sacks leader, Justin Houston.

Point is, the Chiefs should be entering this game with some confidence, on the heels of a stingy defense and winning five of their last six. If you asked me who I thought the better team was, it’s definitely Kansas City. In reality though, that doesn’t matter as the damn pesky Bills seem to have the Chiefs number.

Of the last six games these two teams have played, the Chiefs have only won two and that’s with four of them being played in Arrowhead. If you remember last season, the Bills outplayed the Chiefs until late, when Bills quarterback Jeff Tuel threw a 100 yard pick six to Chiefs corner back Sean Smith. Tamba Hali later added a forced fumble that he took to the house and the Chiefs left Buffalo at 9-0 on the season.

However, the Chiefs team of 2014 is better than the 2013 team that won it’s first nine games. Having played better competition and dealt with early adversity, this Kansas City team seems to be on the right track and better on both sides of the ball at this time compared to last years team.

A lot more is riding on this game than people think and Kansas City winning this game would be huge which is why I consider it a must win situation.
