YOUR KANSAS CITY ROYALS ARE GOING TO THE WORLD SERIES!!! The Kansas City Royals finished the sweep of the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday night with a 2-1 victory at Kauffman Stadium.

The Royals flashed the leather all over Kauffman Stadium, making outstanding plays across the diamond highlighted by Alex Gordon‘s catch while running into the wall in the 4th inning and Omar Infante in the 6th with runners at the corners.

I guess the days of the Kansas City Royals headlining no trade lists across the league are over.

Jason Vargas was the beneficiary of a barrage of outstanding defensive plays. With a big assist from his defense, Vargas went 5.1 innings, allowing 2 hits, 3 walks and 1 earned run on Ryan Flaherty‘s solo home run in the 3rd. Vargas left the game with a runner on base and the Royals up 2-1.

Kelvin Herrera entered in the 6th inning with a runner on first. Herrera got Steve Pearce on a pop up, then allowed a single by Adam Jones to shallow right, before getting Nelson Cruz on a liner to 2nd to end the inning.

Herrera also pitched a clean 7th to go 1.2 scoreless innings.

Wade Davis came into pitch a scoreless 8th.

Greg Holland nailed down his 4th save of the series in the 9th despite giving up a leadoff walk to put KC in the World Series.

At the Plate

The Royals got things started with the most Royals of innings: scoring 2 runs without the ball leaving the infield. Alcides Escobar reached on an infield single to open the game for KC. Nori Aoki was hit by a pitch before Lorenzo Cain bunted the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Eric Hosmer hit into a fielder’s choice to 2nd, which brought Escobar in to score.

Jonathan Schoop‘s throw to the plate looked like it would nail Escobar at home, but Escobar’s hard slide knocked the ball out of C Caleb Jones’ glove. The ball squirted free—allowing Aoki to score as well to put KC up 2-0

Ryan Flaherty got one run back for the Orioles with his solo shot in the 4th, but the Orioles could not pull any closer.

  • The Royals defense put an exclamation point on their post-season play with too many outstanding plays to count. Kansas City opened the game with two good plays by Alex Gordon in left, and Omar Infante at 2nd to start the game with 2 outs that would have been hits against most defenses.

Alex Gordon showed why he’s won 3 consecutive Gold Gloves by robbing J.J. Hardy of extra bases by slamming headfirst into the chain link fence in left to make yet another outstanding catch in the 4th.

Omar Infante speared a low liner from Nelson Cruz to end the 6th with Oriole runners on the corners.

The Royals have now won 11 straight post-season games going back to their 1985 World Series run.

The Kansas City Royals become the 1st team to win their first 8 games in a post-season.

Royals manager Ned Yost becomes the 1st manager in major-league history to win his first 8 post-season games.

Omar Infante gets our nod for his run-saving play in the 6th inning that saved at least one run. Infante also made a nice play on a grounder to 2nd in the 1st inning.
