The success of the Kansas City Chiefs in recent years has made fans and opposing players from across the league envious of everything that Patrick Mahomes and company have been able to accomplish.

While one would think that winning the Vince Lombardi Trophy multiple times would make Kansas City a desired destination for free agents across the league, one veteran is publicly saying how his own personal grudge against the Chiefs is enough to make him not want to even consider taking his talents to the AFC powerhouse, despite the fact he could fill a position of need following the loss of Justin Reid.

During a recent interview with Kay Adams and Devin McCourty on Up & Adams, longtime Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons made it clear that he would much rather be part of a team that knocks off Kansas City than help the Chiefs win another championship. However, Simmons did not go as far as to say that he wouldn't completely close the door on the possibility despite it not being his personal preference.

“Speaking truthfully here, my heart is torn because I’ve always been so publicly against Kansas City and it’s because they’re a really good team," Simmons said. "It’s not like a true hate, I just want to beat them. It is just ingrained in me to beat them. Am I shutting that door? Am I closing it? No, but I just want to be the team that beats them.”

McCourty did his best to convince Simmons to overlook that personal desire to beat the Chiefs in order to put himself in position to win a Super Bowl and even referenced how Darrelle Revis left the New York Jets for a season to join the New England Patriots and accomplished just that before ultimately returning to New York.

Whether or not McCourty's advice is taken to heart by Simmons, the safety did say that he would have to get the contact information for Revis to ask how that experience in New England worked for him, is yet to be seen. However, this proves that even the most ardent haters of the Chiefs have to at least consider the option of joining Kansas City if they want to put themselves in a position to contend for a title.

We'll find out soon enough where the four-time All-Pro safety lands within the league as Simmons has proven that he is still an impact player on that side of the ball at the age of 31.
