The Kansas City Chiefs have the Philadelphia Eagles coming into town, but will be without Xavier Worthy. While he's sidelined for the game, he was on the practice field this week, giving fans hope that his injury isn't as bad as initially feared.
Nonetheless, they are focused on getting win No. 1 on the season and avoiding a 0-2 start. And if that happens, the Chiefs could be interested in looking at a receiver.
One of those potential targets is former Chiefs star Tyreek Hill. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Saturday that the Miami Dolphins haven't gotten any calls from other teams regarding Hill. While he added the team doesn't have any plans to trade him, this looks like the classic attempt to boost Hill's trade value. And this development means the Chiefs re-acquiring Hill could be easier than it seemed before.
Tyreek Hill Has No Suitors on Open Market per Latest Report
Hill has openly flirted with a reunion with the Chiefs over the last few years, but nothing has moved to the next step. And that makes sense because the Dolphins weren't looking to move on from him. In 2022, he finished with 119 catches for 1,710 receiving yards, and seven touchdowns. He followed up that campaign, logging 119 receptions with league-highs in receiving yards (1,799) and receiving touchdowns (13).
This crashed last season when he had 81 catches for 959 receiving yards and six touchdowns, as Tua Tagovailoa missed six games. It led to the collection of Tyler Huntley, Skylar Thompson, and Tim Boyle throwing passes for the Dolphins in 2024. That's why his production dipped.
Hill was so upset with the Dolphins that he said, "I'm out," following the Week 18 loss to the New York Jets last season. He scaled back those comments this offseason, but Miami is a sinking ship.
Head coach Mike McDaniel is on the hot seat and is the betting favorite to be the first head coach fired entering Week 2. In Week 1, the Indianapolis Colts dominated Miami en route to a 33-8 victory. Hill only had four catches for 40 yards in the contest.
The Dolphins decided to hold a players-only meeting after the loss, indicating the temperature in that locker room. If they continue down this path, McDaniel will be gone sooner rather than later, and Hill will be asking out.
And if that happens, it looks like the asking price won't be as high as first thought, which could allow the Chiefs to reunite with one of their most explosive pass catchers in team history.
