Tyreek Hill Just Opened the Door for Chiefs Reunion in Shocking Week 18 Comments
By Joe Summers
The Chiefs were dominated in a meaningless game against the Broncos on Sunday, but Week 18 didn't come without surprise excitement that could suggest a thrilling reunion is legitimately possible.
All-Pro WR Tyreek Hill, who clearly still has a relationship with his former teammates and coaches, seemingly officially declared his unhappiness as a Miami Dolphin after being eliminated from the playoffs. In postgame comments to the media, Hill prioritized his career and made his intentions clear.
Despite being under contract with no potential out until after the 2025 season, it's obvious that Hill is playing his hand to ensure he's moved in the offseason.
Tyreek Hill Seemingly Requests Trade After Dolphins Eliminated From Playoffs
"It was great playing here," Hill said. "But at the end of the day, I got to do what's best for my career. I'm too much of a competitor to be just out there."
There is a lot to dissect from these comments. Hill had compiled at least 1,183 yards in six of his last seven seasons but left early in the Dolphins' loss to the Jets despite being just 61 yards away from another 1,000-yard campaign.
Miami coach Mike McDaniel said that he was focused on the players competing, potentially a subliminal shot at Hill. A five-time All-Pro, Hill hasn't experienced significant team success following the trade from the Chiefs, though he's been widely recognized as one of the NFL's best players with a larger role.
Hill carries a cap hit of nearly $29 million in 2025. Miami doesn't have a potential out until after the season, so any move has to be a trade unless the Dolphins take on a $56 million dead cap penalty. He only has two years left on the deal, meaning the Chiefs could swoop in if Brett Veach makes the cap figures work.
Nick Bolton, Trey Smith, Justin Reid, and more are pending free agents. It's widely been assumed that Veach would re-sign at least one of those players, though letting them walk would free up more than enough space to acquire Hill in a trade.
Many interesting decisions await the Chiefs after the playoff run, yet it's becoming increasingly likely that the organization will at least consider bringing Hill back in the near future.
