Travis Kelce on Doorstep of Major NFL History in Week 10
Since Patrick Mahomes became the Chiefs starter in 2018, he and Travis Kelce have become the most dangerous quarterback-tight end duo in the league. Mahomes has helped Kelce have five straight 1,000-yard seasons from 2018-2022.
Last season, however, Kelce fell 16 yards short (984) of a sixth straight 1,000-yard campaign with Mahomes. Moreover, if Kelce had reached 1,000 yards last season, it would have been his eighth straight 1,000 yards season with two that preceded Mahomes.
Kelce's sustained success throughout his career has cemented him as one of the best tight ends in football history. Currently, he sits fourth all time in receiving yards by a tight end at 11,763.
Kelce can become third all-time, surpassing Antonio Gates, this weekend with 79 receiving yards against the Denver Broncos.
This season, Kelce averages 54.4 yards per game. Kelce's low average per game this season is due to having four games with under 50 receiving yards.
Despite somewhat of a slow start to the season, Kelce has back-to-back games with 90 or more receiving yards. Pairing that with the fact that Kelce has averaged 77.5 receiving yards per game against the Broncos in his career, so passing Gates this week is highly likely.
Whether Kelce becomes third all-time in tight end receiving yards this weekend or later this season, it will only continue to cement his making the Hall Of Fame. Whenever Kelce decides to hang up the cleats, the Chiefs organization and fans will miss the energetic superstar tight end.
