Top Chiefs Rookie Has Personal Beef to Settle at Super Bowl
By Jovan Alford
The Kansas City Chiefs are back in the Super Bowl for the third consecutive year after defeating the Buffalo Bills, 32-29 in the AFC Championship Game last week.
The Chiefs will try to pull off a three-peat, which has never been done before in the Super Bowl era. However, it won’t be easy for Kansas City as they will play the Philadelphia Eagles, who are coming off a dominant 55-23 blowout win in the NFC Championship Game.
These two teams played each other a couple of years ago in Super Bowl LVII, which the Chiefs won 38-35. For Kansas City to win another Super Bowl, they’ll need a few explosive plays from Patrick Mahomes and Co.
One wide receiver who Mahomes will lean on is rookie Xavier Worthy. Worthy has become one of Mahomes’ top receiving targets down the stretch of the regular season and made a couple of plays in the AFC title game.
In last week’s win over the Bills, the speedster had six receptions (seven targets) for 85 yards and a touchdown. For Worthy, this will be his first Super Bowl appearance. However, this will be his second game at the Caesars Superdome in over a year.
The rookie receiver last played in the Caesars Superdome in the CFP Semifinal against the Washington Huskies on Jan. 1, 2024, in which his Texas Longhorns lost 37-31. Worthy was held to two receptions for 45 yards.
The rookie wide receiver hasn’t forgotten about that game and vows to get his revenge. "Lost my last one in there. I get a chance at redemption," Worthy said when asked about his return to the Superdome (h/t Charles Goldman of AtoZ Sports).
Chiefs fans hope Worthy is ready for this moment as it does not get any bigger than playing in the Super Bowl. The rookie wideout has played well in the second half of the season and the playoffs (11 receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown).
