The Kansas City Chiefs started the season out perfectly before going on a two-game losing streak that included a tough divisional loss to the Denver Broncos. After sending an undeniable message to Denver in the season opener, the Chiefs collapsed against the Broncos, forcing the fanbase into a state of growing angst.
Still, it isn't all doom and gloom as the Chiefs remain with only two losses on the season and in an AFC picture are still very much a possible one seed when looking at the schedule.
Kansas City's next three-game stretch is completely winnable, with games versus the Jets, Falcons, and Cardinals next on the schedule. If the Chiefs are able to win these three straight, the team will be sitting at 8-2, giving them a chance to take control of the AFC West and perhaps grab conference control in Week 12.
The highly anticipated matchup with the Buffalo Bills will come in Week 12 and very plausibly could be for the AFC lead. Kansas City's frustrating losses aren't going to define the season ahead or prevent the Chiefs from taking care of business against inferior rosters. But they should force them to adapt and improve.
Chiefs still have everything in front of them for control of the AFC
Losing to the Broncos in the fashion the Chiefs did is understandably turning up the heat and doubt for a fanbase that endured a miserable 2025 season. It is easy to begin to fear worst-case scenarios, until you look a bit deeper at the schedule and realize that things are not only set up to turn the season around but also to make a push for the one seed.
Having a first-round bye is incredibly powerful for any team. But especially for the Chiefs already instills so much fear into opponents in the postseason. An extra week to get healthy and having one less game to stumble in is a weapon that is undeniable.
It would reignite Arrowhead Stadium, who so badly wanted for postseason action last year.
Chiefs fans need to take a deep breath, look at the schedule, and understand that everything still lies well within their control. The division is still extremely winnable, especially given the fact that Kansas City beat the Raiders and Chargers once each earlier this year.
The Chiefs are in a good position and simply need to get healthier and perhaps find additional weapons for Patrick Mahomes. Even as currently built, the Chiefs have everything needed to stay in the conference race.
