The NFL will release its schedule this week and Kansas City Chiefs fans will be looking for an advantage. Sure, the NFL schedule gives the average fan the freedom to accept wedding invitations and book vacations. But the main things fans want to know is who they are playing, when they’re playing them, and how it can help their team.

There are several factors that could play a role in the schedule, such as a cold game in December or when the Philadelphia Eagles come to town for a Super Bowl rematch. But the first report concerning the schedule surfaced on Saturday, and it could bring a unique advantage to the Chiefs in 2025.

Chiefs Reportedly Set to Face Chargers in Brazil to Open 2025 NFL Season

According to Eric Fisher of Front Office Sports, the Chiefs will face the Los Angeles Chargers in Sāo Paulo, Brazil, to open the 2025 season. The game will take place on Friday, Sept. 5, and involve the Chargers as the home team, as previously revealed in February.

The chance to watch the Chiefs play in Brazil is certainly one some fans will jump at. But the notable aspect of the report is that Kansas City will face an AFC West opponent on a neutral site.

Taking on the Chargers in Week 1 has plenty of positives for Kansas City. The positive is that the Chiefs get to take care of a divisional opponent right away and don’t have to worry about heading to SoFi Stadium this season (although it probably would have been filled with red anyway).

It’s also notable that the Chiefs haven’t had much trouble with the Chargers when they’ve played them on the road. Kansas City has won 11 straight road games against the Chargers, dating back to their time in San Diego and have won each of their past six meetings overall, sweeping the season series in each of the past three seasons.

It makes the Chargers' quest to win the AFC West a little more difficult, and the perfect Week 1 opponent in the perfect location for the Chiefs. If the report is true, it gives Kansas City a big advantage as they look to return to the Super Bowl and win the whole thing in 2025.
