Former Kansas City Chiefs receiver Skyy Moore has found his next offseason landing spot with NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reporting that "the Packers are signing former 49ers WR/returner Skyy Moore to a 1-year deal. Moore averaged 27.5 yards per kick return and 11.6 yards per punt return in San Francisco — a key weapon for field position." This is an impressive turnaround for a player who appeared to be heading out of the league heading into the start of the 2025 season.
Issues with ball security led the Chiefs to send Moore to San Francisco in exchange for a pick swap that allowed KC to move up from the 7th to the 6th round. This was a bit of a surprise, and there was still room to wonder if Moore was going to be able to make the final roster for the 49ers. Not only did the pass catcher make the roster, but he flashed an explosive ability as a returner and breathed life back into a career that appeared to be circling the drain.
Now, Moore is joining a Green Bay roster that needs a returner if they aren't planning to use corner Keisean Nixon at the position. Nixon has experience as a returner, but Moore is the more explosive option, allowing Nixon to focus defensively as the Packers look to piece together a secondary and will likely rely on the defensive back a bit more heavily after losing pieces in free agency.
Ex-Chiefs WR Skyy Moore Continues to Take Unexpected Career Path
For Moore, it is an opportunity not only to solidify his ability to contribute to a contending team but to become a long-term answer in Green Bay. The Packers have zero options when it comes to a long-term solution at returner and could clearly use improved depth at the receiver position. With this in mind, Moore could go in two seasons from appearing to be on his way out of the league to a vital piece for a consistent playoff contender.
It is unusual and should give Kansas City fans a bit of pause as to why things couldn't work with the franchise. The easy explanation is simply pointing out that Moore had gotten in his own head and needed a change of scenery to return to his early promise. Regardless of the actual answer, it is great to see the former Chief carving out a surprise path for himself in the NFL.
Moore worked hard and was clearly respected by his teammates, but the receiver wasn't living up to expectations in Kansas City. Turning the page remains the right decision, giving Moore the chance to turn around his career and perhaps become a Green Bay stalwart by the end of the 2026 season.
