The Kansas City Royals are off and running in Spring Training, sporting the best record in the Cactus League through a handful of games as the team tries to build off an incredible run to the postseason in 2024.

Finding improvements for the offense has been a major topic of conversation for the front office, particularly given the underwhelming performance in the AL Divisional Round of the playoffs against the New York Yankees. For this club to reach new heights, the offense simply has to improve.

In a series of moves designed to spark the lineup, notably led by the trade for new leadoff hitter Jonathan India, the Royals added Cavan Biggio, who is quickly turning heads as one of the franchise's best performers in the spring.

New Royals Signing Cavan Biggio Earning Roster Spot in Spring Training

It's obviously very early, though Biggio has impressed in a variety of ways. Not only has he shown an ability to serve as a platoon player covering multiple positions, but his plate appearances have been extremely impressive as well.

Despite being on a minor league deal, Biggio has three hits in five at-bats and has played three different positions. When you're trying to prove yourself to a new organization, that makes a great difference. Manager Matt Quatraro is known for utilizing players in different spots, so Biggio's versatility goes a long way.

The front office will need more consistency to ensure that he belongs on the 26-man roster to start Opening Day though. Biggio played for three different teams in 2024, failing to crack a .200 batting average for any of them. That said, his pedigree and underlying statistics suggest that may have been an outlier performance.

Based on how well he's played so far in the spring, Biggio is quickly earning a roster spot on one of the most interesting teams in the sport going into the new campaign.
