With the regular season over, the Kansas City Chiefs are focused on improving this offseason. The Chiefs have several holes on this roster, and the running back room could use some love after how ineffective the backfield was this season.

The rushing attack has been lackluster, and it seems like the chapter has closed on Isiah Pacheco, who will become a free agent in March. The Chiefs will need some serious upgrades, which is why Rachaad White would be the perfect addition to the ailing RB room this offseason.

Rachaad White Seems Like an Ideal RB Option for Chiefs

With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' season officially over, White posted a picture on Instagram, signaling the end of his tenure. His caption said, "Uno out. Thank yaw forever for da past 4 years."

White's rookie contract is up, meaning he'll hit free agency in just over two months. Tampa Bay's backfield features Bucky Irving and Sean Tucker, leaving little room for White to have a role going forward.

Over his Tampa Bay career (67 career games, 48 starts), he had 2,656 rushing yards, 1,450 receiving yards, and 25 total touchdowns. He's able to make plays as both a rusher and a pass-catcher. Another part of his game that's underrated is his pass blocking. This season, White has posted nine games with a 75.0 or higher pass blocking grade on Pro Football Focus.

That's something that keeps running backs on the field and gains extra points with the coaching staff. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid loves to have running backs who are dual threats, which is why White seems like an ideal fit.

Spotrac has listed White's market value at $7.5 million, projecting him to sign a two-year, $14.9 million deal in free agency. That price tag isn't high, especially for a player who has been productive in this league on several postseason runs.

The Chiefs only have Brashard Smith signed for the 2026 season, so it's obvious they'll need to make some additions to that room. White would be a nice move and provide Kansas City with someone who could take the RB1 role.

The potential addition of White shouldn't stop the Chiefs from continuing to improve that position group, but the idea of adding White is enticing. Kansas City finished the season 25th in run offense (106.6). Kareem Hunt was the leading rusher with 611 yards, and Pacheco was second with 462 rushing yards. Mahomes wasn't far behind, logging 422 rushing yards.

That's nowhere near good enough, and the Chiefs know that. That's why the idea of adding White makes sense and would improve Kansas City's rushing attack. In a jam-packed backfield, White logged 572 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns with the Bucs in 2025. For the past four seasons, he has compiled at least 770 scrimmage yards and shown his ability to make plays.

Given that the RB room can't get any worse than it was in 2025, it might be in the Chiefs' best interest to offer White a 'prove-yourself' contract when free agency opens.
