The NFL trade deadline is just over two weeks away and while we've already seen some big-name receivers moved, Kansas City has stayed patient thus far. Things could change after JuJu Smith-Schuster popped up on Friday's injury report, though even Patrick Mahomes sounds comfortable with who the Chiefs have.

One potential target is former All-Pro DeAndre Hopkins, wasting away on a miserable Titans team. It sounds like Tennessee wants to keep the five-time All-Pro but Bill Barnwell of ESPN isn't so sure.

He wrote a projected trade column on Thursday, proposing a bonafide slam-dunk trade the Chiefs have to make if the Titans are willing.

New Projected Trade Gives Chiefs Titans WR DeAndre Hopkins

"What the Chiefs need is someone who can step in and take Rice's spot in the starting lineup without requiring any sort of serious commitment for next season. Looking around the league for veterans who fit that role, there's an obvious fit in Hopkins," writes Barnwell. "He's owed approximately $6 million over the remainder of the season, but the 32-year-old former Texans star is a free agent in 2025."

Hopkins only has 14 catches for 175 yards and one TD this year but put up 1,057 yards and seven scores last season. Why would Tennessee agree to this trade? Barnwell points out that the Titans aren't keeping Hopkins anyway after paying Calvin Ridley. With their season already seemingly over, why not recoup some value before it's too late?

"This might not feel like a massive return for a veteran wideout with Hopkins' history," Barnwell continues. "But he didn't have a huge free agent market two offseasons ago, is older now, is battling a knee issue and is owed meaningful money over the remainder of the year."

If Hopkins is traded, he likely wouldn't have a huge market given his age and pending free agent status. The Jets and Bills already solved their receiver issues, leaving only a handful of potential fits across the league.

Hopkins would instantly become the Chiefs' best receiver. Despite an illustrious 12-year career, he's never sniffed true playoff success. Kansas City could give him a chance at a ring, so Hopkins should want this just as bad as Chiefs fans do.
