The Kansas City Chiefs have spent the first week of free agency addressing both sides of the ball. With that in mind, the Chiefs' wide receiver room could still use some help after Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy's disappointing 2025 campaigns, putting the onus on general manager Brett Veach to find new additions.

Even though some notable free-agent wideouts have already found new homes, it doesn't mean the Chiefs can't add a game-changing WR before March is over. Former San Francisco 49ers playmaker Jauan Jennings is still a free agent, and with fewer options available by the day, the table might be set for general manager Brett Veach to attack.

Jauan Jennings Could Help Solve Chiefs' WR Needs

Contrary to expectations, the Chiefs did just fine after trading Tyreek Hill. Despite the lack of a big-play specialist and high-volume target like him, they still managed to win a couple of Super Bowls. That said, the years have passed, and the need for a high-volume pass catcher has become painfully evident.

Jennings has shown glimpses of strong play in the past couple of years, nearly reaching 1,000 receiving yards two years ago and logging nine touchdown catches last season despite battling ankle, rib, and shoulder injuries.

A former late-round pick, Jennings has intriguing untapped potential, and it would be interesting to see what he can be capable of as a primary target, especially playing for one of the greatest offensive playcallers of all time.

The Chiefs don't have many options at wide receiver. Rice may face another suspension, Worthy has yet to break out, while the jury is still out on Jalen Royals. They did keep deep-ball threat Tyquan Thornton, but he hasn't been a primary pass-catcher yet, and that's without mentioning Marquise Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster's free-agent exits.

Spotrac projects Jennings' next contract to be for three years and $67.8 million, an average annual value of $22.6 million. The Chiefs only have $7 million in available cap space, according to OverTheCap, so they will likely need to negotiate to lower his expectations. Regardless, the juice could be worth the squeeze.

Then again, the Chiefs can definitely work something out with him, given that his market has been much drier than expected. The allure of winning a Super Bowl with Patrick Mahomes could make Jennings willing to take a discount, giving GM Veach every reason to at least try.

The longer free agency continues, the harder it'll be for the Chiefs to address their WR concerns. Finding a way to iron out a deal with Jennings makes too much sense, as it'll give Kansas City one less thing to worry about before the front office can further add wideout depth at the 2026 NFL draft.
