The Kansas City Chiefs are the powerhouse in the entire NFL, winning three Super Bowls over the past five years. Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid are a dynamic duo that has yet to be stopped. Heading into 2024, the expectation is the same as everyone expects them to run away with the division and be a serious Super Bowl threat.

There isn't much of a threat in the division, as the Chargers would theoretically have the best chance to threaten the Chiefs.

Just because they have the second best odds to win the division at +350, doesn't mean they are a serious threat to compete in the division.

The Chargers underwent a drastic overhaul in the offseason when Jim Harbaugh and Joe Hortiz took over. At the beginning of the offseason, the Chargers decided to release Mike Williams and Austin Ekeler before trading away Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears.

They had a chance to snag a dynamic weapon in Malik Nabers during the 2024 NFL Draft but they decided to select Notre Dame's Joe Alt instead.

The Chargers nabbed Ladd McConkey and Brenden Rice later on in the draft to join the WR corp. Quentin Johnston and Joshua Palmer are also in that room but they don't strike any fear in opposing defenses.

Now this just puts more on Justin Herbert's plate, especially under a new coaching staff.

Not having one established playmaker on the roster is something that will come back to haunt this team. When the Chargers go up against the Chiefs, they'll have to put up 30-plus points to have the best chance to beat them. With this roster, that'll be a tough task and will hamper Los Angeles from seriously competing with the Chiefs.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Kansas City is the clear favorite at -230 to win the AFC West.
