Why Kadarius Toney Needs to be Active in Super Bowl vs. 49ers

It's been an interesting few weeks for Kadarius Toney, to say the least, but I believe it's imperative that he suits up for the Chiefs as they take on the 49ers in the Super Bowl this Sunday.

We know about the Instagram shenanigans and consistent injuries that've kept Toney out since mid-December, though he's reportedly healthy now. Despite his struggles this season, Toney brings a dynamic, game-changing ability to the roster that no other player does.

Should the Chiefs need a dramatic spark like they did with last year's record-setting punt return to help beat the Eagles, Toney is the man for the job.

I'm not about to make excuses for Toney's poor performance overall this season. He caught just 27 of 38 passes for 169 yards and one TD, with several notable drops sprinkled in along the way.

This isn't the time to make Toney a featured player or even give him very many snaps. However, this is the time to prepare for a "break glass in case of emergency" situation should the Chiefs find themselves trailing late.

Richie James, the incumbent punt returner, has a career-long return of 15 yards. He's a dependable player, but he lacks the home-run capability that Toney brings. Seemingly every time Toney touches the ball, he breaks tackles. If Kansas City needs a massive play to change the tides of the game, what better person to take on the assignment than one of the most elusive players in the entire NFL?

I still believe in the impact Toney can have on this team. Don't forget he scored a TD last year on top of the punt return too. Fingers crossed the coaching staff gives him an opportunity to add to his total.
