The Royals are on the verge of an AL Division Series appearance after winning Game 1 in the Wild Card Round against the Orioles on Tuesday.

It was Kansas City's first playoff win since the World Series victory in 2015 and fans are buzzing with excitement. They still need one more win to eliminate Baltimore, but fans are already dreaming of who the Boys in Blue could face in the next round.

In perhaps the most fitting possible way, the hated New York Yankees await the Royals should Kansas City advance.

Who Would Royals Play in 2024 MLB AL Division Series?

In Game 1 of the Wild Card Series, Cole Ragans and the bullpen pitched a shutout against the Orioles while superstar Bobby Witt Jr. drove in the game's only run. It was a marquee Royals victory, highlighted by stellar pitching and opportunistic hitting.

Seth Lugo and, if necessary, Michael Wacha now have the chance to close the series out. Should Kansas City win, the ALDS will start on Saturday in New York. Game 3 on Wednesday, October 9 would be the first playoff contest in the City of Fountains in nearly a decade.

The Yankees won five of seven games against the Royals this year, though Kansas City's roster is much different than it was even halfway through the season. Aaron Judge and Witt Jr. and the presumptive top-two finishers in the AL MVP race, potentially giving fans a showdown between the two best players in the league.

There's more work to be done, yet the palpable excitement in the air tells you all you need to know.
