Where the Chiefs' WR Depth Chart Stands Heading Into Draft
By Joe Summers
3. Justin Watson
Watson became a trusted, dependable target for Mahomes and was routinely targeted in third-and-long situations. He only caught 27 of 53 targets but ended the season with 460 yards and three TDs with 21 first downs.
The 6'2", 215 LB wideout had a few notable drops and I'd guess he winds up as the fourth receiver after the draft. With respect to Watson, that he's currently the third guy on the depth chart kind of proves why the Chiefs need upgrades at the position.
Having Mahomes' trust is a big deal and Watson deserves credit for that. He'll be on the roster and likely catch a few important passes this year. Even still, something will have gone wrong if he's No. 3 on the depth chart by the end of the season.
4. Skyy Moore
Before being placed on the Injured Reserve list and missing the playoffs, Moore was in the midst of a bitterly disappointing year. He ended with 21 catches on 38 targets for 244 yards and one TD, only eclipsing three receptions once.
It's safe to say this second-round draft pick hasn't worked out despite the TD in the Super Bowl win against the Eagles. Moore's separation skills from college haven't translated to the pros and he lacks the size to fight for contested catches in the air.
The former Western Michigan standout can still make a positive impact on this team, though I anticipate he'll be buried on the depth chart once the playoffs roll around. Moore is among the players that've been training with Mahomes in Texas, so here's hoping that extra work translates to on-field success.
