Chiefs Kingdom owes whoever made the NFL schedule a thank you.

The Chargers took a hard-fought loss to the Cowboys on Monday Night Football and now face a short week ahead of Sunday afternoon's Week 7 showdown in Kansas City. Trends show acing Dallas leaves teams in shatters the following week, so the Chiefs have a massive advantage.

With a 2.5-game edge over Los Angeles in the AFC West, the reigning Super Bowl champions will end the division race this week with a resounding win.

Undefeated Against the Spread Trend Favoring Chiefs

So far this season, every team that played Dallas failed to cover the spread the following week.

The latest example was the San Francisco 49ers losing to the Jets, but thus far teams have struggled to compete after battling the tough, physical Cowboys. A relentless attack led by Micah Parsons leaves an impact that no franchise has overcome yet.

Dallas played the Giants in Week 1. New York beat the Cardinals the following week but did not cover the 4.5-point spread. The Jets lost to the Patriots as 2.5-point underdogs in Week 3, then Arizona got blown out 35-16 by the Niners with a 14.5-point spread.

In Week 5, New England got demolished 34-0 as two-point favorites, then of course the 9.5-point underdog Browns gave the 49ers their first loss of the season last week.

It makes sense that squaring off with one of the NFL's best defenses would leave you battered, but the scheduling comes at a particularly good time for the Chiefs.

Kansas City sits atop the AFC and gets an easy matchup with Denver in Week 8 before a gauntlet of difficult games starts. Considering how well the Chargers have played the Chiefs with Justin Herbert, every advantage counts.

Herbert is battling a finger injury too, so the short turnaround after a Monday night game leaves Los Angeles in even worse shape. A win for the Chiefs would give them a 3.5-game lead over the Chargers in the division, effectively giving Kansas City its eighth consecutive AFC West crown.

The Chiefs are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games at home. With an opportunity to wrap up the division race before Halloween, you can expect that record to improve this Sunday.
