The Royals take on the Orioles in Game 1 of the AL Wild Round on Tuesday afternoon and we now have the umpire assignments for the pivotal contest.

Ryan Additon will serve as the home plate umpire for the 3:08 PM CST tilt. According to UmpScorecards, he had a 93.8% accuracy rating on balls and strikes this season, tied for 36th out of 72 eligible umpires.

Additon made his MLB umpiring debut in 2017 and worked the 2023 National League Division Series between the Dodgers and Diamondbacks.

Royals vs. Orioles Game 1 Umpire Revealed

He called three Royals games this season: a 2-1 win over the Blue Jays on April 25th, a 5-3 win over the Athletics on May 18th, and a 3-0 loss to the Dodgers on June 16th. Additon only called one Orioles contest, a dominant 17-5 victory over the Yankees on June 20th.

It's a special day for Kansas City, making its first playoff appearance since the magical World Series run in 2015. Cole Ragans takes the mound against Corbin Burnes, representing a stellar pitching matchup between two bonafide aces.

This won't be an easy series, though the Royals are built to compete in the playoffs. If the bullpen can continue its hot streak from September, during which it posted the fifth-best ERA in MLB (2.77), Kansas City can come away with a series win.

Fans never want to see umpires decide a game, so here's hoping that Additon calls balls and strikes accurately with no controversy.
