Chiefs WR Kadarius Toney is perhaps the most interesting player on the 90-man roster as the organization approaches cutdown day on Tuesday. Most have assumed throughout August that Toney would be cut, yet one new projection flips that narrative on its head.

Pete Sweeney of Arrowhead Pride, one of the most respected and connected journalists covering the team, officially has Toney making the final roster in his latest projection.

After the rise of Justyn Ross and Nikko Remigio over the last several months, Toney's inclusion in Sweeney's final projection is a major surprise. However, Toney's involvement in the final preseason game indicates he could, and perhaps should, be a member of the roster as Kansas City tries to win its third straight Super Bowl.

Latest Chiefs Roster Projection Includes Kadarius Toney

The Chiefs have already begun trimming their wide receiver room with more cuts on the way in the next few days.

As Sweeney writes, "It still sounds like something that could go either way, but Toney’s health seems to be there (at least right now) — and Reid values his upside. I also think tight end Jared Wiley’s presence on the roster may hurt a would-be role for Ross, who I imagine the Chiefs would try to get back on the practice squad with Remigio."

During his time with the Chiefs, Toney has proven to be a volatile, extremely talented receiver possessing a skillset few athletes have. He's scored a TD in the biggest game of them all and holds the record for the longest punt return in Super Bowl history. Few humans can dodge would-be tacklers as he can and that upside is why the coaching staff is so enamored with him.

It appears Toney is facing an uphill climb, yet there's now hope for his fans. If Sweeney is correct, Ross will not be on the roster, a huge surprise given how much he's worked with the first-team offense over the last month.

We'll know soon, though Toney now appears to have a legitimate chance to make the 53-man group.
