Shocking Rashee Rice Injury News Confuses Chiefs Fans Ahead of Bye Week
By Joe Summers
Chiefs WR Rashee Rice received a confusing new update on his knee injury just ahead of a Week 5 matchup with the Saints on Monday Night Football.
Adam Schefter of ESPN confusingly reported both that Rice's injury isn't as serious as initially thought and that he'd likely miss the remainder of the season. Considering the early reports suggested he'd miss the season, Schefter's tact doesn't track.
Rice is expected to undergo surgery on Tuesday morning, at which point we'll know more, but the confounding reports do little to clarify the star wideout's return timeline.
Chiefs WR Rashee Rice Gets Confusing Injury Reports on Monday
Schefter reported there was optimism Rice's recovery timeline was much shorter than expected, though quickly posted that he'd likely miss the season. Fans are unsure what to make of this news, as it seems contradictory on its face.
At the least, it sounds like Rice's ACL is intact. His LCL is apparently the issue with Tuesday's surgery determining the ultimate diagnosis.
Chiefs fans should begin to resign themselves to the idea that Rice is probably not going to play again in the 2024-25 season. A glimmer of hope remains, yet that light grows dimmer by the day. For his long-term health, it may be best to keep him sidelined despite what it could mean for Kansas City's three-peat hopes.
That being said, no one seems to actually have clarity on the situation. Even Schefter himself contradicted himself within 30 minutes, adding to the uncertainty surrounding Rice's status.
We'll keep you updated as soon as more information becomes available.
