The Royals have one major offensive hole that could come back to bite them in this season suddenly filled with exciting expectations. With respect to the bullpen, which needs an upgrade as well, the outfield is a trainwreck offensively right now.

I have faith in Hunter Renfroe, MJ Melendez, Nelson Velazquez, and Kyle Isbel, but optimistic patience has burned Kansas City in the past. Drew Waters is raking in Omaha right now and could be a solution to the offensive woes.

If there's any plan to bring up Waters eventually, why not go ahead and pull the trigger before the losses pile up?

Royals Need to Consider Bringing Drew Waters to MLB Club

Kansas City could look to the trade market and I think they should consider it, though it's hard to argue with Waters' current production. He hit only .228 in the majors last year but is off to a flaming-hot start in AAA in 2024. At the least, I think it's worth a shot.

Melendez, Velazquez, Renfroe, and Isbel make up an outfield that ranks 29th in batting average (.196) and 30th in wOBA (.259). There are only 30 teams, so that's about as bad as possible.

Waters already has three home runs, 24 runs scored and 15 RBIs with six stolen bases to boot. He's a solid fielder, meaning the defense shouldn't take a big hit either. I believe the organization will be patient for a couple of more weeks with their current outfield, but J.J. Picollo needs to consider making serious changes if the problems persist.

Whether by trade or by calling up Waters, we're quickly approaching the need for an upgrade in the outfield.
