The Royals are off to a flaming-hot start and vibes are high around Kansas City. They've enjoyed an exciting first couple of weeks to the season and now stand to get even better, as presumptive starting second baseman Michael Massey is nearing a return.

Massey made his first rehab start for the Triple-A affiliate Omaha Storm Chasers. He'll make another start on Tuesday at second base and if all goes well, he'll be back with the big league club sooner than later.

Considering Massey's promising power and defensive ability manning a critical position, getting him back could help push the Royals over the top.

Royals News: 2B Michael Massey Nearing Return

There isn't much to complain about with this ball club right now, though the limited production from Adam Frazier and Nick Loftin at second base would be on the list.

Massey hit just .229 last year but smacked 15 home runs and 18 doubles with 55 RBI, showcasing unique power at the position. If he can find a way to hit for contact a bit better, he's got a bright future in Kansas City.

With Bobby Witt Jr. looking like one of the sports' best players, Maikel Garcia enjoying a breakout, and Vinnie Pasquantino finding his form, the Royals could soon have one of the most impressive young infields in all of MLB.

The team suddenly looks like legitimate playoff contenders. It's very early in the season, but I can't wait to see what Massey can add to this team.
