The Kansas City Chiefs training camp is in full swing and the team has been receiving unfortunate injury updates on a regular basis. Regardless, the back-to-back Super Bowl winners are starting the new NFL season as the title favorites (+600) once again according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

That doesn't mean, however, that the roster is perfect. There are plenty of positions that could use more depth and talent upgrades. In recent years, Patrick Mahomes has been able to make up for such roster weaknesses but the Chiefs can't expect him to bail them out year in and year out.

Therefore, general manager Brett Veach should be on the lookout to make improvements to the roster. One of the positions of need is the cornerback opposite Trent McDuffie. After L'Jarius Sneed's departure, the Chiefs weren't able to replace him properly, counting on Joshua Williams or Jaylen Watson to take a step forward and become starter-caliber defenders.

Since no one grabbed the CB2 job in Kansas City, bringing in more bodies to compete for the role makes some sense. Fortunately for the Chiefs, an ideal free-agent target just became available.

Veteran Defender Jalen Mills Now A Free Agent

Jalen Mills, who spent the last three seasons with the New England Patriots after a five-year stint with the Eagles, was just released by the Giants. The 30-year-old veteran can play both cornerback and safety and played every game for the Patriots last season. Most notably, he was the starting corner for the Super Bowl-winning team with the Eagles.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Mills is currently healthy and should have suitors on the market. One of those suitors should be the Kansas City Chiefs. Mills has a unique skill set and a rare versatility, having lined up all over the defense, including safety over the last couple of years.

Mills may not be able to crack the Chiefs rotation but he is worth taking a flyer on amidst the uncertainty surrounding the Chiefs' defensive backfield.
