It’s been a tumultuous offseason for Kansas City Chiefs second-year wide receiver Rashee Rice.

Rice, drafted in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, and had a stellar rookie season, got in trouble a couple of times away from the football field. In April, the 24-year-old wide receiver was arrested following a multiple-car crash in Dallas, TX. Then, in May, Rice was reportedly named as a suspect in an alleged assault at a Dallas nightclub.

The young wide receiver spoke with reporters for the first time on Saturday at a youth football camp and understands he needs to do better as a person.

“I've learned so much from that,” Rice said (h/t ESPN). “All I can do is mature and continue to grow from that. This is a step in a better direction for me."

The NFL has yet to submit its punishment for Rice’s actions this offseason officially, but it’s been reported that the young wide receiver could be out until October. Nonetheless, the former SMU receiver has participated in the Chiefs’ offseason practices and leaned on his teammates during this time.

“Accidents and stuff like that happen, but all you can do is move forward and walk around being the same person, try to be positive so that everybody can feel your love and your great energy," Rice said.

The Chiefs hope Rice practices what he preached this weekend because for them to win their third consecutive title (+600 on FanDuel Sportsbook) this season, they will need him to be one of their top pass-catching threats, alongside Travis Kelce and Marquise Brown.

That said, if Rice is out for an extended period, the Chiefs have more than enough depth at the wideout spot, led by Brown and rookie Xavier Worthy, where they shouldn’t miss a beat.
