Patrick Mahomes Shown Ridiculous Disrespect From Fellow NFL Players
By Cem Yolbulan
With training camps fully underway and the start of the regular season only a month away, the NFL announced its annual rankings of the best players in the league. Voted by fellow NFL players, the ranking takes into account the previous season's performance to determine the best players in the league.
Following Kansas City's back-to-back Super Bowl wins, the top of the list is unsurprisingly dominated by Chiefs players. The Chiefs are the only team with three players in the top ten, with Travis Kelce at No. 9 and Chris Jones at No. 6.
However, the biggest shock in the entire list was about where Patrick Mahomes ranked. Despite being voted the best player in the league in two of the last three seasons and winning consecutive Super Bowls, Mahomes fell three spots in the rankings, to find himself at No. 4.
NFL News: Players Snub Patrick Mahomes in a Big Way
While it is true that Mahomes had a down year in the regular season relative to his standards, he still delivered when it mattered the most. In four postseason games, he threw for 1,051 yards, six touchdowns, and one interception, erasing any doubt people may have. It's also important to note that Mahomes had one of the weakest receiver corps of any elite quarterback in the league last season.
The two players ahead of Mahomes on the list are particularly bizarre. Christian McCaffrey was ranked third while former Chief Tyreek Hill was voted the best player in the NFL by their peers. Hill is easily the best receiver in the league and McCaffrey is a dominant offensive force. However, the fact that more players would rather have them over Mahomes is absolutely mind-boggling. Would any NFL head coach or fan really prefer a running back, regardless of how good he is, over one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time?
