The Kansas City Chiefs are one step closer to officially opening the 2024 NFL season. On Monday, the Chiefs began Phase One of their offseason program, meaning they are holding meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation programs. As part of that, head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke to the press to discuss the Chiefs' offseason and the three-peat campaign.

A big part of these press conferences was of course about the new additions to the team. The Chiefs lost L'Jarius Sneed to the Tennessee Titans but retained most of their key free agents. Moreover, they made a big splash by signing Hollywood Brown to a one-year deal in free agency.

The signing of Brown created a ton of excitement in Kansas City as the receiver room left plenty to be desired last season. With Travis Kelce aging and Rashee Rice being embroiled in legal trouble, Hollywood Brown might play an even bigger role than anticipated. He is potentially the X-factor for this team for next season and Mahomes seems certainly impressed with what he has seen so far.

Chiefs News: Mahomes Impressed by Hollywood Brown's Versatility

Mahomes said that he was "pleasantly surprised" by Brown's route-running. Obviously, everyone knows about the former Oklahoma man's speed and deep threat. Especially during his time with the Baltimore Ravens, Brown was a dangerous long playmaking threat. He went under the radar in two seasons in Arizona with the dysfunctional Cardinals offense but Brown is a good candidate to make a comeback in 2024.

The fact that Mahomes sees Brown as a more versatile weapon than he has generally been used is an excellent sign for Kansas City. Using Brown in option routes will provide even more diversity to the Chiefs' offense, which at times struggled with predictability last season due to a lack of pass-catching options.

Mahomes will need Brown to be a reliable pass-catcher to win his third MVP award. He currently has the best odds (+650) on FanDuel Sportsbook to win AP NFL MVP again.
