Veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling is not with the Kansas City Chiefs as the team released him early in the offseason. Valdes-Scantling spent the last two seasons in Kansas City, which had its series of ups and downs.

The veteran wideout landed a new opportunity with the Buffalo Bills, signing a one-year, $2.25 million deal. Valdes-Scantling is joining a Buffalo passing game that will try to establish itself after trading Stefon Diggs and seeing Gabe Davis leave in free agency.

It’s a perfect opportunity for the veteran receiver to prove he can put up big numbers with Josh Allen and help him win an MVP. Speaking of MVPs, Valdes-Scantling believes he helped Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes win the most prestigious award in the league in a piece written by Tyler Dunne of Go Long.

The veteran wideout gave his props to Rodgers and Mahomes, but he wants people to know those two quarterbacks didn’t do it alone.

"I’ve helped them elevate their games in different facets. I helped Aaron win a couple MVPs. I helped Pat win MVP, a couple Super Bowls. My resume speaks for itself, too. Ain’t a one-way thing, man. I put up some big numbers with these guys. Made some big plays for these guys. It all works out on both ends. And it’s not a fluke. It’s happened everywhere."

In one respect, MVS is right as MVP is an individual and team award. However, putting up big numbers and elevating their games is an entirely different conversation.

When Rodgers won the MVP in 2020 and ‘21 with the Packers, Valdes-Scantling produced 33 receptions (63 targets) for 690 yards and six touchdowns and 26 receptions (55 targets) for 430 yards and three scores, which isn’t horrible.

However, those aren’t Pro Bowl numbers from the veteran wideout. As for Mahomes’ MVP in 2022, Valdes-Scantling had 42 receptions (81 targets) for 687 yards and two touchdowns.

Again, those are solid statistics for MVS, who is a WR3/WR4, but it's nowhere near the level of Travis Kelce.

Nonetheless, Valdes-Scantling will have a chance to make some plays in Buffalo this season. If he can get 600-plus yards this season, we should bookmark Allen as the MVP.
