Main Hang-Up of L'Jarius Sneed Trade Revealed
By Joe Summers
The most important storyline for Chiefs Kingdom until the 2024 NFL Draft centers around L'Jarius Sneed and his potential trade to another team.
We've seen several teams emerge as front-runners like the Titans and Colts, though recent reports have suggested he may not be traded at all. Now, we have a clear indication as to why negotiations have seemingly slowed down.
Here's the latest report from Dianna Russini of The Atletic:
Chiefs Rumors: L'Jarius Sneed Contract Extension Demands Preventing Trade
Sneed understandably wants a long-term extension from any team that acquires him. The former fourth-round pick is still seeking his first major payday in the NFL, though his desire to become one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the league seems to be slowing discussions.
The Chiefs are reportedly content to keep Sneed on the franchise tag in 2024 as the organization looks to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls. It would hurt to see him walk next offseason for no compensation, but keeping the best cornerback duo in the sport together for another year could be worth it regardless.
It's unclear if Sneed will ultimately be traded, though I expect we'll get frequent updates over the next several weeks as Brett Veach figures out what draft picks he'll ultimately have.
The Titans and Colts are still the two most likely options, but it feels more likely with each passing day that Sneed could wind up back in Kansas City next year.
With +350 odds to win the AFC, the Chiefs are big favorites to win the conference once again. If Sneed sticks around, those odds will likely shrink before the season officially gets underway.
